Art in York Hospital's Cancer Care Centre
We've worked with several freelance artists to provide art sessions in York Hospital’s Cancer Care Centre. Patients, carers, family and friends, have enjoyed countless afternoons of creativity and companionship.

Artists
Kat Wood
Specialising in textiles, local artist Kat Wood joined us for a special Christmas project in 2018, going on to take the Cancer Care Centre artist role between April – July 2019.
Kat’s own work focuses on large tactile felted artworks and smaller sculptural knitted and crocheted items. She also runs workshops and textile classes around the UK to show others how to get the most out their own creativity.

Katrina Mansfield
Katrina joined the Cancer Care Centre’s creative team for a specialist theatre project between February and March 2019. Participants learnt skills in set design; building cakes from expanding foam, making tea with epoxy resin and branches from toilet tubes and polyfilla.
Katrina lives and works in York, but brought expertise in theatrical set design from London, where she worked in the West End for seven years. Katrina is best known for her vivid Fluid Art, using layers of acrylic paint to depict abstract impressions of nature.

Tanya McClelland
Illustrator, Tanya McClelland, worked with us in the Cancer Care Centre between January 2018 and March 2019.
Tanya specialises in illustration, favouring bold styles, textures and bright colours. She plans engaging themed sessions supported by inspirational quotes and new techniques. Tanya also works at York Art Gallery; she loves to share her passion for art and creativity with participants.
Mim Robson
Freelance artist, Mim Robson, joined the team to provide arts sessions in the Cancer Care Centre between November 2017 – January 2018.
Mim is an artist and crafts-person specialising in ephemeral work including land art, sand art, natural materials and nature crafts. She works with dark room and alternative photography techniques, traditional and heritage arts and crafts, henna tattooing and is an experienced art, craft and creative expressive workshop facilitator.

Anne Hutchison
Anne Hutchison joined us as the Cancer Care Centre and ward 16 Artist for many years, helping patients to relax and take their mind off things through varied arts and crafts activities.
Anne is an experienced York based artist and teacher, working in a range of media. York Hospital is adorned with artwork made by those working with Anne over the years.
