What happens when you need an operation?

Concerns about having an operation are natural.  To help you and your child understand the procedure once you are in hospital watch our film below:

Meet the play team

Play is important for children and young people, especially when in hospital.

Our friendly and highly-skilled play teams provide specialised therapeutic play to help children cope with their diagnosis, condition, treatments and procedures.  The play teams also provide general play activities to help normalise a child’s experience at hospital.

As part of this, on both of our children wards there is a play facility staffed by team members, and stocked with books, toys and games.  Watch the video to see our play teams in action:

Child in Charge at York Hospital

On Thursday 22 June 2017, young people from Westfield Primary Community School in York took over the running of York Hospital, as part of the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Challenge.

The event gave young people the chance to 'takeover' parts of the hospital for the day. In doing so, they got to experience into what it's like to be in a real work environment and take on important responsibilities. The children also had the opportunity to ask questions about how decisions are made and understand the affect these decisions can have on young patients.

Our video below shows some of the valuable feedback our Trust was given by the brilliant pupils.
