Your Child's Hospital Journey
Children and young persons epilepsy service (York)
Weekly clinics are held on a Wednesday afternoon in the CDC in York hospital. Dr Rob Smith, Dr Sheik Razak and Dr Ianthe Abbey have a special interest in epilepsy and see children along with Annette Gowland and Janette Clarke the specialist epilepsy nurses. Families are given contact details for the specialist nurses so they can seek support between clinics. Dr Smith, Dr Razak and Dr Abbey can be contacted via their secretaries to answer questions and give support between clinics.
Following the clinics care plans are written by the specialist nurses in conjunction with the families for nurseries and school if the child needs rescue medication. Home and school visits are done as needed.
Rescue medication training is given to parents, carers and educational staff if required.
Clinics are held in the child development centre at York Hospital. Children are referred either from their GP or paediatrician.
