Shared Care Service for children with life limiting/life threatening conditions

We work with the Oncology team in Leeds to help to deliver care close to home for children diagnosed with cancer. We work very closely with the Community Nursing Teams, for example we can help with bloods test and look after children when they have a raised temperature (febrile neutropenia).

The service is provided at:

  • The York Hospital
  • Scarborough General Hospital
  • Out in the Community

Children who have cancer and who are looked after in Leeds or other tertiary centres are referred to the shared care centre when they are diagnosed. GP’s speak to the paediatrician on call in York or Scarborough if they suspect a child has cancer. The on-call consultant will then speak directly to the specialist oncology team in Leeds and the shared care team in York and Scarborough.
