Join our Nursing Council
Our Nursing Council (NC) is inclusive of staff from various AfC bands, sites, and care groups to represent decision-making at all levels from ward to board.
We hope to bridge the gap and ensure no decisions are made about nursing staff without their voice being heard. By working together we are building an accessible forum where your views are respected, recognised, and channeled effectively to ensure you’re equipped to fulfill your role in being excellent, open, and kind.
We believe by building the council connections, and reducing the gap between ward to board, that no decision will be made about us, without us.
It's important to note we are not a union. Our remit does not extend to matters such as negotiating pay and conditions, major changes such as redundancy, grievances and disciplinaries, and legal and financial problems.
Who can join?
We welcome as many of you as possible, as members, to join us in our journey.
You will be guided throughout by our chair, deputy chair and NC champions. Our chair and deputy chair ensure that the council runs smoothly and that issues raised are actioned efficiently; these roles are reviewed annually. Our NC champions are a core group of individuals who assist the chairs in maintaining momentum, raising awareness, and lead campaigns that arise from issues brought forth to the council.
And...yes, we do have badges too!
Members and champions
Members feedback their thoughts on our Whatsapp group when asked around a certain topic, in some circumstances a vote may be put forward. You’ll be invited to face to face meetings, however, there is no expectation that you need to attend. Once you have demonstrated your commitment, you can approach the chair/deputy chair to become a council champion.
Champions attend monthly face-face meetings and other virtual meetings to support the council to meet specified outcomes and discuss any pressing matters. Your managers will give you the time back, just speak with the chair if you have any issues in doing so.
