Please ensure the correct tube is used for the test using the guidance provided in the test directory search and any special instructions to ensure the integrity of the sample is maintained: Click Here 

Do label the sample container AFTER adding the blood checking the patients details to prevent mismatch of names and specimens

Do not use addressograph labels on blood transfusion samples

Please ensure the request card and the sample have adequate labelling - if your sample is not labelled adequately it may be rejected. Click Here for guidance on request form completion and specimen labelling requirements.

Do have blood taken in the morning wherever possible

Do not pour blood from one tube to another

Do not mix up tubes and tops to tubes – possibility of cross contamination of anticoagulant

Do not collect blood from a limb connected to an IV infusion

Information for visitors
