Perioperative medicine

Perioperative Medicine is a new specialty created by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Perioperative medicine brings together healthcare professionals to improve postoperative outcomes and optimise a patient’s experience of their surgery.

The service is currently run by ten Consultant Anaesthetists and two Perioperative Medicine Nurse Specialists. They work alongside the surgical and ward team and are involved mainly in the preoperative assessment and preparation and immediate post-operative care of patients.

More information on the service can be found at the dedicated York Perioperative Medicine Service website.
