Physiotherapy
The Trust's physiotherapy service is a single service spanning both the acute and community settings. It covers most clinical areas and inputs to multiple sites as well as patient's homes when needed.
In order to provide quality physiotherapy we are divided into clinical specialist teams. Each team can follow a patient from in-patient care to out-patient care, thus maintaining a seamless service. All teams are co-ordinated by senior staff who are specialists in their fields. They are responsible for the development of junior staff, students and assistants. All our qualified staff are registered with the Health Professions Council.
Physiotherapists are autonomous practitioners who can assess, diagnose and treat patients in all age groups with many different illnesses, injuries and conditions.
Physiotherapists have an important role to play in the health care of many people in many different settings. They use their expertise and skills in pain relief, movement, exercises, manual techniques and manipulation to treat, rehabilitate and re-educate people with a wide range of health problems. They work with people who have lost some movement and ability through accident, ageing, illness or disability aiming to help patients and their carers resume as active and independent a life as possible.
