Respiratory medicine - York Hospital

The Respiratory Medicine Team at York provides a range of expert services in the management of acute and chronic respiratory disorders

The team supports patients with a range of conditions such as:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Cystic Fibrosis (Click here for Cystic Fibrosis Site)
  • Interstitial Lung Diseases (Extrinsic Allergic and Fibrosing Alveolitis)
  • Long Covid
  • Lung Cancer
  • Lung Infections including Tuberculosis
  • Pleural Conditions (Including Procedures)
  • Pulmonary Emboli
  • Sleep Related Breathing Disorders
  • Respiratory Failure (Including Non-Invasive Ventilation support)

Acute Inpatient Services are based on Ward 34 at York Hospital, There are also a wide range of other inpatient, outpatient and community services based across York.

Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team including:

  • Consultant Physicians
  • Specialist Registrars Training in Respiratory Medicine
  • Core Medical Trainees
  • Foundation Doctors
  • Staff Grade Doctors
  • Physician Associates and Advanced Clinical Practitioners in Respiratory Medicine
  • Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeons (based in Castle Hill Hospital, Hull)
  • Consultant Oncologists
  • Consultant Radiologists
  • Respiratory Nurse Specialists
  • Respiratory Specialist Physiotherapists
  • Ward Nursing Staff

Maternity access at York Hospital - Saturday 22 February

On Saturday 22 February, 8am-6pm, there will be a temporary change of vehicle access to the maternity unit at York Hospital. Access via entrance 2 will be closed to allow essential works to be completed. 

If you are attending the maternity unit at York on this day, please drive in via the entrance for A&E (marked blue light priority).

The multi-storey car park will not be affected by this change, and any non-urgent visitors should continue to park in this area.
