Acute Medicine
The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit receive acutely ill medical patients from general practitioners or the emergency department. The function of SDEC is to promptly assess patients that are considered suitable for treatment and discharge on the same day, without needing hospital admission. It is situated in the G1 ward (ground floor, junction 5). AMU allows assessment of more dependent, acutely unwell patients who are expected to require overnight admission to the hospital. AMU is a 30-bed ward on the second floor, junction 5.
At the Scarborough Hospital site, acute care is provided in the Emergency Assessment Unit and in the 32-bed AMU on Lilac ward.
