Hips

The most common cause of hip pain is arthritis; osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Normally a doctor would recommend a course of pain relief before considering whether surgery is necessary. 

They will consider the quality of the life you lead. When simple everyday tasks become difficult and painful, it may be necessary to think about hip surgery to replace your hip joint, which is called an arthroplasty. Sometimes, hip replacements become loose and need to be re-fitted.  This is called a revision.

Hip surgery takes place at our York and Bridlington sites. If you require urgent surgery to your hip joint following a fall or an accident, this would be undertaken in our trauma centres at York and Scarborough.

Knees

The most common causes of knee pain is arthritis; osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Normally a doctor would recommend a course of pain relief before considering whether surgery is necessary.

Your doctor will consider the quality of the life you lead. When simple everyday activities such as walking or climbing the stairs become difficult and painful, it may be necessary to think about knee surgery. You may require a total knee replacement or a keyhole procedure to strengthen the ligaments around your knee. 

Knee surgery takes place at our York and Bridlington sites.

If you require urgent surgery to your knee joint following a fall or an accident, this would be undertaken in our trauma centres at York and Scarborough.

Elbow

Pain in your elbow can be caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and soft tissue injuries.

There are a number of different procedures that can be carried out to deal with painful elbow conditions, many through keyhole surgery. Elbow surgery is undertaken at our York and Bridlington sites

If you damage your elbow in an accident and require emergency surgery to your elbow, this will take place in our trauma centres at York and Scarborough.

Foot and Ankle

Foot and ankle pain can be caused by arthritis and congenital and other abnormalities. We carry out a number of different foot and ankle procedures, many by keyhole surgery. 

Foot and ankle surgery is undertaken at our sites in York and Bridlington. If you damage your foot and ankle in an accident and require emergency surgery, this will take place in our trauma centres at York and Scarborough.

Hand and Wrist

We undertake a number of different types of hand and wrist surgery, including those to treat conditions caused by trauma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, carpel tunnel syndrome, and Depuytren’s contracture.

Hand and wrist surgery takes place at our York and Bridlington sites, and some minor surgery is undertaken in our outpatients department at the Clifton Park outpatients department in York.

Shoulder

Shoulder pain is caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and some sports injuries.

We undertake a number of different shoulder procedures at our York and Bridlington sites, including some arthroscopy procedures which are done through a telescope. 

If you damage your shoulder in an accident and require emergency surgery, this is done at our trauma centres in York and Scarborough.
