Our services

Neurosciences physiotherapy team

What we do

We provide Physiotherapy advice and treatment for people, aged 16 and over, with any neurological condition (other than stroke patients, who are seen by another specialist physiotherapy team).

Patients are individually assessed and a problem list, specific treatment programme (including advice on managing their condition, if appropriate) and joint goals are devised.

Other services available in the Neurosciences Physiotherapy team are: functional electrical stimulation, provision of mobility equipment,  hydrotherapy and a Parkinson’s disease exercise group.

Within the team there is a transitional physiotherapist who supports young people (16 – 25 years old) moving from children’s to adult services and young people returning to the area after College or University, (see further information under Transition Physiotherapy).

Following an episode of treatment the GP, consultant and referrer (if different) will be sent a letter with details of assessment, treatment and outcomes.

Referrals are categorised into urgent or routine.

For 1 year following discharge from the Neurosciences Physiotherapy Department, patients are able to self refer.

Where we are

Yellow weather warnings in our area

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for ice and snow in our area. This is expected to affect routes to and from our hospital sites.

If you are attending for an appointment, please plan ahead. Check road closures, leave in plenty of time, and drive safely.
