Introduction to Psychological Medicine
We are a small team of Clinical Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Counsellors and Psychological Therapists who work alongside our medical colleagues to support people living with a range of physical health conditions.
We promote understanding of the impact that physical health conditions can have on our emotional wellbeing, and the impact that emotions can in turn have on our physical health and behaviour.
We use a range of (evidence-based psychological models) and therapies to support people across the lifespan and their healthcare teams to find ways forward through (distress related to physical health).
We also promote staff wellbeing, and have a team dedicated to this in our department.
Our main base is at York Hospital, where we hold the majority of our outpatient clinics either from the hospital or from our main department office at The Old Chapel, Bootham Park. Some of our team also see in-patients at York Hospital. We are able to offer remote appointments via the NHS Attend Anywhere platform or by phone.
We have academic links with York and Hull Universities, and Psychologists in Clinical Training are frequently on placement with us.
