Our services

Sexual health services (YorSexualHealth)

The Trust provides a range of sexual health services throughout York and North Yorkshire to men and women of all ages.

YorSexualHealth has clinics across the whole of York and North Yorkshire which offer a full range of sexual health and contraception services. This means you can get all your sexual health care provided in one place at one time. This includes tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV, a range of contraception choices, free condoms and advice.

Our services are confidential, free and friendly and are open to everyone. Our YorSexualHealth clinics offer appointment options to suit your personal needs.  Please see the YorSexualHealth website for more details and information.

Virtual Testing - Postal Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)

YorSexualHealth also offers free and confidential postal tests for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis for men and women 16 years old and over living in North Yorkshire and York.

It is common for men and women to have infections without noticing any symptoms, so getting tested is the only way to know whether or not you have a STI. If you have noticed any symptoms or have had sex with someone who you know has a STI we advise you to attend one of our YorSexualHealth clinics for a check-up.

If you are under 25 it is recommended that you are tested for chlamydia annually or whenever you have a new sexual partner. Order your free YorSexualHealth chlamydia postal kit here.  If you want to be checked for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis in one test you can order a postal STI test here.

Your GP and Practice Nurse can also offer you a range of free and confidential sexual health care – contact your local practice to find out what is available. For information about sexual health services outside of North Yorkshire and York, please visit the NHS choices website.

If you are over 25 pharmacies will charge for emergency contraception, but it is available free of charge from any NHS provider. Some school and college nurse drop-in services also provide free emergency contraception.

Emergency HIV Treatment

Emergency treatment given within 72 hours of exposure may prevent infection. This is available from YorSexualHealth or your nearest A&E Dept. Call YorSexualHealth on 01904 721111 as soon as possible for advice.
