Grants

You can use a Staff Benefits grant to receive funding towards starting a new physical activity, joining a weight management group or enhancing your work environment. Funded by our very own Staff Lottery, grants are available for all staff to use (meaning you don't have to be in the staff lottery to benefit from one). 

How to save the Staff Benefits and Wellbeing section to your home screen

iPad or iPhone

  1. Launch “Safari” app.
  2. Enter into the address field the URL of the website you want to create a shortcut to. Tap “Go.”
  3. Tap the icon featuring a right-pointing arrow coming out of a box along the top of the Safari window to open a drop-down menu.
  4. Tap “Add to Home Screen.” The Add to Home dialog box will appear, with the icon that will be used for this website on the left side of the dialog box.
  5. Enter the name for the shortcut using the on-screen keyboard and tap “Add.” Safari will close automatically and you will be taken to where the icon is located on your iPad’s desktop.

Android

  1. Launch “Chrome” app.
  2. Open this link.
  3. Tap the menu icon (3 dots in upper right-hand corner) and tap Add to homescreen.
  4. You’ll be able to enter a name for the shortcut and then Chrome will add it to your home screen.

Types of grants available

Physical Activity Grant

For individuals starting a new physical activity such as running, walking, swimming, fitness classes (this grant cannot be used to fund an existing physical activity which the applicant regularly participates in). The maximum amount available to claim is £25. A receipt must be attached to this form and the grant payment will be made through salary. This grant can be applied for on an annual basis. 

Weight Management Grant

This grant is available for an individual to join a weight management group such as Slimming World, Weight Watchers, or any other weight management group/app. The total amount available to claim is £25. A receipt must be attached to this form and the grant payment will be made through salary. This grant can be applied for on an annual basis. 

New - Enhance Your Work Environment

This grant offers staff the opportunity to request funding that will help towards enhancing the work environment. These would be items not normally provided through Trust budgets such as cups, cutlery, plants, and pictures. The total amount for an individual grant is £25 per team. The requested items will be purchased for you by Staff Benefits. This grant can only be applied for once. 

How to apply

  1. Click here to download the application form
  2. Complete the form and email it to yhs-tr.staffbenefits@nhs.net
  3. Don't forget to attached any receipts to your email (Physical activity and weight management grants only) 

The following criteria will pertain to all funding requests:

  • You must be currently employed by York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust or York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management.
  • An application form must be completed for each grant.
  • Receipts must be dated in the month you apply for the grant (with the exception environment grant).
  • The following are examples of what cannot be requested (please note this list is not exhaustive):
    • Items needing on-going maintenance.
    • Food items.
    • Electrical items.
    • Display Screen Equipment.
    • Trainers.
    • Fitness monitors.
    • Seasonal decorations (for example Christmas/ Halloween decor)  
  • Staff Benefits have the right to refuse any request.
