General Information / Electronic Test Requesting

Electronic test requesting 'Ordercomms' ensures the correct data is obtained for completion of the test request and minimises the risk to the patient associated with the manual input of patient information when received by the laboratory.

Electronic requesting has been rolled out in many areas within York Hospital and Scarborough Hospital and to all GP surgeries utilising the York and Scarborough Laboratories.

We would ask our users to help us to provide the best service we can by ensuring that bar codes are of good quality and placed correctly on the tubes.  This is an example of GOOD and BAD labelling Click Here.

In visits to GP practices over the last year, during our roll out of ICE ordercomms requesting, a number of people have asked if we could setup an easier way to make the multiple requests normally associated with common ailments.

We have sought the opinions of clinical scientists, laboratory operational management, and of the many funding CCGs in our area for evidence based and / or cost-effective profiles for screening a primary care population.  The ICE interface is shared among all users, so by their nature these profiles have to be a compromise.
